Browse USFans Bottoms Spreadsheet02 / Make a useful comparison
A waist label is only part of a useful bottoms comparison. Keep the garment’s length, rise and leg shape in the shortlist so that two similar-looking options can be compared on the same basis.
Separate straight, wide, tapered and flared legs from the product information rather than relying on the angle of a folded photo. For shorts, compare the intended leg opening and length. A similar waist dimension can belong to very different garment shapes.
Keep the exact wash or color with your notes. A different option under the same listing may have different visible detailing, so check the selected option’s photos and measurements before assuming it matches the preview.
Read what the waist figure measures. A garment laid flat, a body waist circumference and a stretched elastic range are different quantities. Compare your reference garment using the same method, and confirm whether an elastic measurement is relaxed or stretched.
Check rise and inseam alongside the waist. Rise affects where the waistband is intended to sit, while inseam records a different length from the full outside leg. If the seller supplies only an outside length, do not silently treat it as an inseam.

Look for a stated composition and any stretch information for the exact option. Denim appearance alone does not establish weight or stretch, and a product name does not tell you how the garment will change with wear. Ask about missing details that matter to your choice.
In order photos, compare the selected wash, pocket layout, closures and visible length or requested measurements with your notes. Keep the source link available when you review the order so a similar pair is not mistaken for the item you chose.

Read the USFans Spreadsheet buying guide03 / Questions before choosing
A few specific questions to resolve before you move from a catalog candidate to your selected item.
Understand catalog and order photosFirst confirm how the seller measured it. A flat dimension is not itself a body circumference, and elastic, construction and intended fit still need to be considered.
Not necessarily. A listing may give outside length instead. Read the measurement labels and ask when the starting points are unclear.
Compare waist method, rise, garment length and leg opening. Use shorts measured the same way as a reference rather than choosing from a waist label alone.
No. Look for the stated composition and stretch information for the exact item. The selection has not been worn or fabric-tested by this guide.
